About Me

I am a proud supporter of public schools and Lex2!

I am the parent of a Lexington Two high schooler, as well as the son and spouse of K-12 educators. My wife Geeia is excited to continue her career at Northside Middle School this year.

Growing up in northern Illinois, some of my earliest memories are of my favorite teachers at my neighborhood elementary school, and of my parents helping out with the school fun fairs. I later served on the middle school student newspaper, and was active in scouting. I earned my Eagle Scout, worked three years on scout camp staff, worked as a busser at a local restaurant, and lettered in chess while in high school.

I attended the University of Illinois for my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and Ph.D. in statistics, where I specialized in educational measurement. While there, I continued serving on scout camp staff for three more summers and shift-managed a nearby pizza place for several years. Most importantly, that is where I met the love of my life and somehow convinced her to marry me.

While applying for jobs after graduate school, I was blessed to get an offer from the Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina and we moved to West Columbia in 1998. While at USC, I have had the privilege of teaching and advising a huge variety of students, as well as being involved in departmental leadership and university-wide faculty governance.

The highlight of our time here in South Carolina has been the birth of our son, who currently attends Brookland-Cayce High School (following SRAA and Northside). With him, I have been involved in Cub Scout Pack 308 (including as Cubmaster) and now with Scout Troop 1. I have also had the opportunity to serve through leadership roles with our neighborhood association, Westover Acres HOA, including a term as president.

If I earn your vote to serve on the Lexington Two Board, I look forward to putting my experience to the best use possible. I hope to give back to the community that has given us so much these last 26 years.
